Compress a PDF Privately

What "in-browser" protects, what it doesn't, and how to check for yourself.

The tool reads and processes your PDF inside your browser. File names, page content and PDF bytes are not sent by the compression workflow. This avoids a server-side document upload and stored compression copy; it does not secure a compromised device, browser extension or later sharing choice.

The page still loads normal website assets. Advertising is currently disabled; analytics or advertising integrations depend on site configuration and the privacy policy. Local tool events are separate from document processing: ordinary events may include rounded input and output sizes, while Remove metadata keeps only the event name and mode. Neither payload includes file names, page content or PDF bytes.

Remove metadata may use grayscale and removes the document Info dictionary and document XMP metadata from a reconstructed PDF. It supplies that cleaned output even when it is larger, with a size warning. It is not redaction or complete anonymisation: names, account numbers and photographs visible on the page remain visible. Use an appropriate redaction workflow before compression when content must be removed.

Match the mode to the task.

Targets are best effort. The final size and warnings are shown with your result.

Choose an approach
Your situation Mode What to expect
Sensitive document (NDA, ID, medical) Remove metadata Processes on your device and strips metadata from the output.
Routine file, privacy not a concern Email Any mode keeps the file local; choose by size, not by privacy.
Want embedded metadata gone too Remove metadata Removes the author, software and timestamp details the source file may carry.
Need to verify nothing uploads Remove metadata Inspect request payloads in the browser Network panel using a non-sensitive test PDF; do not judge solely by request size.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my PDF really not uploaded?
Correct — compression runs inside your browser, so the file is not sent to our servers. You can confirm it in your browser's Network panel: no upload of your file appears when you compress. Encryption claims on other sites protect a transfer; here there is no transfer to protect in the first place.
Is the whole site completely private, then?
Browser-local PDF processing does not promise anonymous website browsing. Advertising is disabled in the current configuration; integrations and cookies depend on site settings. Remove metadata minimises local tool event detail, but does not disable all website measurement.
Does Remove metadata remove all identifying information?
No. It removes document Info/XMP metadata and reduces tool event detail. It does not redact visible content, encrypt the file or certify anonymity. The cleaned rasterised output can be larger than the source.
