1. Overview
Our core principle is simple: the PDF compression tool runs in your browser. Your documents are processed on your own device and are not uploaded to our server during standard compression. This page describes what limited information the website itself may process, why, and the choices you have.
This document is provided for information only and is not legal advice. It describes our current practices and does not create rights or obligations beyond applicable law.
2. Who is responsible
Easy PDF Compressor is operated from Switzerland. For any privacy-related request, you can reach us through our contact page.
3. PDF processing
The PDF compression tool is designed to process files locally in your browser. Your documents are not uploaded to our server as part of standard compression workflows.
During compression, file data may exist temporarily in your browser's memory. Once the process is complete, the output file is generated in your browser and downloaded by you. When the tool transforms a PDF, it rebuilds pages as images. This can remove selectable text, OCR, interactive forms and links, accessibility structure, and valid digital signatures. Keep your original if you need those functions. An original returned unchanged keeps its contents and document functions.
4. Metadata handling
Metadata behavior depends on the selected preset:
- Remove metadata mode: removes the document-level Info dictionary and XMP metadata from the generated PDF.
- Other presets: reconstructed files copy supported source Info fields when available, including title, author, subject, keywords, creator, producer, and valid dates. They do not preserve all XMP or custom metadata. An unchanged original retains its metadata.
Remove metadata rebuilds pages as images and provides the resulting PDF even if it is larger than the original. It does not anonymize or redact content visible on the pages and is not a replacement for document encryption or dedicated redaction tools.
5. Analytics and logs
We may collect technical usage events (for example preset usage and start/success/failure signals) to improve reliability and product quality. Events use controlled codes and can include input and output sizes. They do not contain filenames, document metadata, page contents, or PDF bytes. Standard server logs may record technical information such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps for security and operational purposes.
In Remove metadata mode, analytics payloads are minimized.
7. Contact data
If you contact us, we store the information you provide (such as your name, email address, and message) for the sole purpose of responding to and supporting your request. Please avoid including highly sensitive personal information in support messages.
8. Retention and security
We keep contact correspondence only as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable period afterwards, then delete it. We use appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect website and support data. No system is perfectly secure, and you should avoid sharing unnecessary sensitive personal information in support messages.
9. Your rights
Under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP/nFADP, in force since 1 September 2023) you have rights regarding personal data we hold about you, in particular the right to information (access), and to request rectification or deletion. If you are located in the European Economic Area, the GDPR may also grant you rights such as access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us via the contact page. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), or with your local supervisory authority if you are in the EEA.
10. International transfers
Some infrastructure, analytics, or advertising providers we may use can process data outside Switzerland, including in the European Union or the United States. Where that happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as recognized adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses) as required by Swiss and EU data protection law.
11. Updates
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
